Warm Nights

Warm Nights is a rotating emergency shelter, which serves, on average, 10,000 meals and 7,000 bednights each winter to homeless individuals and families.

The program provides physical facilities at 32 host congregations throughout Prince George's County, as well as transportation services, employment assistance, general medical and mental health services, and intensive case management to help people assess their needs effectively. With the help of more than 8,000 volunteers each year, Warm Nights shelters 50 persons each night from November to April.

Participants arrive at 7 p.m., receive a hot, nourishing meal and case management assistance prior to bedtime, and conclude their overnight stay with breakfast before leaving by 7 a.m.

Hyattsville Mennonite church hosts Warm Nights one week each winter, giving those in need a warm place to sleep in our fellowship hall, providing them with dinner each evening and feeding them breakfast in the morning. At least one volunteer sleeps onsite each night while Warm Nights' staff are also awake onsite overnight.

Warm nights is ponsored by the Community Ministry of Prince George’s County, a county funded program. All clients must be actively employed or actively seeking a job (Welfare Reform Act).
