The Warm Nights program is a rotating emergency shelter, which serves, on average, 10,000 meals and 7,000 bednights each winter to homeless individuals and families.
Warm Nights is sponsored by Community Crisis Services, Inc. If you are in need of immediate shelter, contact the homeless hotline: 1-888-731-0999.
Warm Nights provides physical overnight facilities for those in need that rotates between 40 host congregations (with 40 additional congregations lending further assistance) throughout Prince George’s County, as well as transportation services, employment assistance, general medical and mental health services, and intensive case management to help people assess their needs effectively. With the help of more than 8,000 volunteers each year, Warm Nights shelters 50 persons each night from October to June.
Hyattsville Mennonite Church (HMC) hosts Warm Nights one week each winter, giving those in need a warm place to sleep in our fellowship hall, providing them with dinner each evening, a bagged lunch to take with them during the day, and breakfast in the morning before departing for the day. Warm Nights’ staff are onsite and awake overnight.
Participants arrive at 7:00 p.m., receive a hot, nourishing meal and case management assistance prior to bedtime, and conclude their overnight stay with breakfast before leaving by 7:00 a.m.
Additionally, HMC is helping provide support for the Prince George’s Plaza Day Center at University Christian Church (6800 Adelphi Rd., Hyattsville, MD) through Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment (CUCE).
